Is US Instigated Cold War About to Get Hot? By Stephen Lendman

Today is the most perilous time in world history. I’ve said it many times. I stress it again now!! Money controlled duopoly power rules America. Bipartisan neocons infest Washington. They make or influence policy.

Their fascist political system demands endless wars, replacing all independent states with US vassal ones – Russia and China the main targets, the only countries able to challenge America’s imperial ambitions.

It doesn’t matter who serves as US president, congressional leaders, Supreme Court justices and key bureaucrats. The ruthlessly dangerous system is too hard-wired to change, short of a popular uprising nowhere in sight.

Cooler heads once ruled America. Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) prevented war with Soviet Russia, including during the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. Jack Kennedy said he “never had the slightest intention of” attacking Cuba.

He was the only US president ever to advocate abolishing nuclear weapons, rapprochement with Soviet Russia, and ending the Cold War, “followed by a general and complete disarmament.” His peace agenda got him assassinated.

America’s megalomaniacal drive for world dominance today risks WW III. Flashpoint conditions in Ukraine and Syria may ignite it.

Thousands of Turkish combat troops are mobilized along Syria’s border. Small numbers illegally invaded, reportedly along with mercenaries.

Turkey’s military continues shelling Kurdish YPG forces in northern Syria, failing to halt their advance – Erdogan acting with permission from Washington despite hollow calls by US and other Western officials to stop.

He’s playing with fire. Former Russian Federal Security Service head Nikolai Kovalyov warned Turkey and others against invading Syria, saying:

The Turkish and Saudi officials are well aware that in case of deployment of their forces in the Syrian territories, the Russian air force will likely bomb them.”

“If the Saudi and Turkish ground forces enter Syria, they cannot be distinguished from the terrorists and Russia will act upon the demand of the legal Syrian government.”

Putin began aerial operations to wage real war on terrorism, prevent its spread to Central Asia and Russia, along with defending Syrian sovereignty and the right of its people alone to decide who lead them.

His campaign directly challenges Washington drive for regional hegemony, foiling it so far effectively, US policymakers frantic to turn things around short of deploying large numbers of US combat troops for an Iraq-style invasion.

Will Turkish and perhaps Saudi troops be used as US proxies? Is a major escalation planned – perhaps on the phony pretext of humanitarian intervention and responsibility to protect, the same dirty scheme Washington used before, attempting to justify its naked aggression.

Russia is the wild card. It’ll act against any threat to its personnel in Syria by ground or aerial attacks.

Self-defense is an international law guaranteed right. Perhaps Putin is eager to teach Erdogan a lesson despite his forthright efforts for peace.

He’s bested America’s regional agenda, gone a long way towards foiling it, limiting Obama’s options in response.

At the same time, put nothing past lunatics in Washington. Their hegemonic agenda risks the unthinkable – direct confrontation with Russia risking WW III.

The possibility should scare everyone. Are we on the cusp of potential life-threatening global war? Is humanity’s survival up for grabs like never before?

Most Americans are uninformed and indifferent about the menace they face – why US policymakers get away with high crimes against peace.
