Turkish Border Guards Murdering Syrian Refugees at Crossing Points

9th March 2016 / Global

Turkey’s refugee policy includes cold-blooded murder, ignored by its officials and EU ones in Brussels on Monday.

Human life and welfare weren’t topics discussed. Focus was on using Turkey as a refugee dumping ground, bribing Ankara with enough sweeteners to go along, details still being worked out, a framework deal agreed on.

In late 2014, Amnesty International (AI) reported instances of Turkish border guards lethally shooting Syrian refugees at crossing points – citing 17 cases it documented from December 2013 to August 2014.

Many others were beaten or otherwise mistreated, denied entry, forced to stay in war-torn Syria. Others arriving in Turkey are “abandoned to a life of destitution,” AI explained.

Turkey is part of the problem, not the solution, allied with Washington’s naked aggression on sovereign independent Syria, threatening no one – supporting ISIS and other takfiri terrorists, killing Syrian civilians daily.

On Monday, RT International interviewed AI’s Andrew Gardner, saying Syrian refugees stranded at border crossings are being shot “daily.”

“There have been many reports of incidents on the border,” he said. They’re increasing, Brussels ignoring what’s happening.

AI has documented evidence of Turkish cold-blooded murder since late 2013, currently “two or three people being shot every day trying to cross the border irregularly,” Gardner explained.

Desperate people pay smugglers to help them across, attempting entry to Turkey at night. Ankara lied, claiming it doesn’t know who people are trying to gain entry.

It’s not just cause for murder. Don’t expect Monday’s framework EU/Ankara agreement to change what’s ongoing.

Turkey persecutes its own people. It’s waging war on Turkish, Iraqi and Syrian Kurds – Brussels turning a blind eye to its high crimes, including border guards lethally shooting desperate refugees seeking safe haven.

A separate article discussed Brussels wanting Turkey used as a refugee dumping ground, relieving EU member states of much of their fundamental obligations.

Their complicity with Washington bears full responsibility for the severest refugee crisis since WW II. Bribing Turkey to warehouse greater numbers of desperate people won’t make the problem go away.

Thousands undertake hazardous journeys to Europe daily, what most people can’t imagine, risking everything to stay alive.

As long as US-led Western imperial wars rage, endless numbers of desperate people will keep seeking safe havens in Europe and elsewhere – a deplorable fate awaiting them when they arrive.
