Vladimir Putin : Person of the Year in Israel

4th January 2016 / Global

By Stephen Lendman

Vladimir Putin is overwhelmingly person of the year in Russia, his popularity nearly 90%, double Obama’s rating in America.

Who’d have imagined Israelis would vote him person of the year – 29% of respondents chose him compared to 15% for Netanyahu.

Time magazine’s person of the year, Angela Merkel, scored 16%. ISIS leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi received 3% of the votes – Obama and Pope Francis 2% each.

The Panels Research poll conducted by the Jerusalem Post and sister Hebrew language Ma’ariv Sof Hashavua publication interviewed 527 Jewish Israeli adults last week.

It showed Putin’s popularity extends way beyond Russia’s borders. He’s the preeminent world geopolitical leader, urging mutual cooperation among all nations, supporting nation-state sovereignty and international law inviolability, waging real war on ISIS and other terrorist groups – polar opposite America’s support for the scourge it claims to oppose.

His comments on world issues are refreshingly forthright, unlike Obama’s shameless demagoguery, serial lying and moral cowardice.

He more than any other world leader deserves Nobel Peace Prize recognition. The award invariably goes to war criminals, showing which side its committee members support.

At year’s end, he sent season’s greetings to numerous current and former global leaders, including Pope Francis and heads of various international organizations – urging “a more stable world order based on the principles of peace, justice and humanity.” Meaning it, not just saying it.

He always says what he means and means what he says, representing the best chance for world peace – standing on the right side of history. He deserves universal support.
