Britain's International Standing In The World - Indexed

The Spectator Index gathers global performance and ranking information from a myriad of sources. Of course, any one source of information can be wrong or distorted for all sorts of reasons – nefarious or otherwise but overall, the statistics give a general guide. For this report, we have added some of the most relevant statistics from the Index to give an idea of where Britain stands in the world from an international perspective. For source information of each result, you can go to the Index list HERE and drill down further for yourself.

A few numbers to remember is that Britain has a population of around 67 million and is ranked 21st in the global list of countries by population but ranked fifth in terms of nominal GDP. Britain is ranked 15th in terms of global emissions output.

Also, some of these statistics are base numbers such as the number of billionaires per country which then does not take account of the size of the population.

Britain may not be the biggest, best, wealthiest, healthiest or longest living but it does rank quite high against good competition in most categories. All of this is underscored by Britain’s global reputation ranking sitting at No16. The top ten are (In order) – Sweden, Finland, Switzerland, Norway, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Japan Denmark and the Netherlands. The USA languishes in 34th.
