Sadiq Khan put rent controls at heart of re-election campaign
- London Mayor Sadiq Khan has put the policy of rent controls in London at the heart of his campaign for reelection in 2020.
- He says it’s time to take some power away from landlords, and give it back to tenants.
- “Fundamental change in the private rented sector in London is long overdue,” Khan said. “More and more Londoners are renting longterm, including families and older people, and the law is simply not fit for purpose.”
- Khan released a report last summer asking to be granted powers to reduce rents.
