NATO Foreign Ministers Agree on Permanent Occupation of Afghanistan

23rd May 2016 / Global

By Stephen Lendman – Endless US-led naked aggression and occupation of Afghanistan continues – coming up on 15 years this October.

The 9/11 mother of all false flags was used as a phony pretext to attack a nonbelligerent country threatening no others.

Candidate Obama pledged he’d remove all US troops from the country straightaway if elected. They remain, part of endless US war and occupation.

Taliban fighters control more territory than in 2001, over half the country, US proxy Afghan forces ineffective against them, the US installed regime deeply corrupted.

US imperialism destroyed the country, killed millions and caused unspeakable misery for long-suffering Afghans. War continues despite Obama’s pledge to end it.

Most Americans have no idea what’s going on in their name, trillions of dollars poured down a black hole of endless wars in multiple theaters in a megalomaniacal quest for unchallenged world dominance.

On May 20, US-led NATO foreign ministers agreed to extend Alliance Afghan operations in perpetuity. Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg lied, claiming “Afghan forces are showing real courage, determination and professionalism…”

Fact: They’re ineffective, lack the will to fight, and try avoiding engaging superior Taliban fighters.

Stoltenberg said ministers agreed to continue NATO’s mission beyond 2016, maintaining funding for Afghan forces through 2020 – in a futile attempt to achieve “lasting security.”

Kabul’s puppet regime has no legitimacy. Afghan forces avoid fights. Taliban elements keep making gains. Perhaps ahead they’ll control the entire country.

Washington pretends things are going well. The war was lost years ago. It continues to maintain the illusion of restoring peace to a war-torn country.

Another generation of fighting won’t improve things. Obama’s successor will continue waging endless war, the longest in US history.

No exit strategy exists to bring it to an end.
